Have you ever wondered why your experience doesn’t measure up to the radical life of joy and adventure described time and again in the Bible? Do you ever feel like something deep and profoundly liberating is missing and wonder, “Is this all there is to life?”

Jesus said,” Anyone who drinks the water I give him will never thrist … The water I give will be an artesian spring within, gushing fountains of endless life” (John 4:14, The Message).

What do we do when we’re angry with God?

We’ve all faced anger, sadness, frustration, confusion, disappointment, fear, or depression at some point in our lives. We know we need to get to the root of the problem in order to fix it. But what what happens when we feel God is the root of the problem? What do we do when we’re angry with God?

Psychologist Michele Novotni noticed that many of her clients who were working through their angry with the people had a parallel need to work through their anger with God. Beneath the psychological issues, many of us also silently struggle with our faith.

Yet, we are afraid to give voice to this anger. We’re told that “good” people, “people of faith,” accept what happens without asking questions. Unvoiced thoughts are forced underground, leaving us feeling discounted from God or even flat-out angry with God – but unable to do much about it.

It’s time to break the silence. This book doesn’t try to talk us out of our anger with God. Rather, it helps us work through it while presenting an image of a God who is compassionate and continues to love us.

Old Testament Stories of Jesus

The Old Testament is many things. Layer upon layer, we discover it as a history book, a praise manual, and a guide written from the lives of those of those who walked before us. Yet the Old Testament is also a picture of Christ, presented in a simple way everyone can understand.

In Light Before the Son, Julianna Treadwell writes, “For thousands of years the Jews lived the promise of Jesus. By using the ordinary backdrop of Jewish life – sheep, bread, and grain – God traced the image of His Son ao that when people came face to face with Him.”

Treadwell’s spirited, captivating narratives uncover Old Testament prophecies and bring them to life. The stories are fictional, but what they reveal about the existence of Christ is scriptural truth. From them, we discover God’s portraits of His Son.

Breaking the Bonds of Anger and Hurt

Three of the hardest words to utter in any language: “I forgive you.”

We say we forgive, but in the dark of the night, the pain surfaces. We can’t seem to erase it from memories. We want those who hurt us to suffer as we have. Must we be eaten up by pain for the rest of our lives? Is forgiveness just a nice dream?

No healthy mind can totally forget a wound that leaves ugly scars, but to remember with a bitter heart is a sign of only partial forgiveness. When you can’t say “I forgive you” walks you step by step along the path of complete forgiveness: a forgiveness that admits to understand the other person, and finally, lets go.

Licensed physician Grace Ketterman validates this counsel by sharing her own shocking story of divorce, shame, and reconciliation. Through her gentle approach, compelling stories, and David’s teaching you will discover the power to make it through the process of forgiveness – past the vulnerability, pain and anger – toward a true change of heart.

What Forgiveness is:

A long process

A disciplines daily choice

Positive selfishness

Taking Responsibility for your own mistakes

Learning to understand other people and their feelings

What Forgiveness is not:

Instant

Excusing the wrongdoer

Surrendering

Dependent on punishment

A guarantee of repentance

Never remembering any part of the offense

Impossible

What the Bible says about Assurance of salvation.

Nearly everyone hopes to end up in Heaven one day. In fact, a whopping 99% of Americans believe they’ll eventually reside there. Yet the Bible claims that only a few will find the “road that leads to eternal life.” So how can anyone be sure of spending eternity with Jesus Christ?

In How Can I Be Sure I’m a Christian? Donald S. Whitney explores the issue of assurance and outlines how Christians can experience a satisfying certainty of eternal life.

In occasional doubts prevent you from fully experiencing the security and peace that Christ offers, you’ll enjoy the clear assurances offered here. By countering a broad range of doubts with a clear, scriptural basis for confidence, Whitney provides encouragement for believers and gentle warnings to those who base their confidence in themselves rather than in God.

Like Daniel, you can cultivate a lifestyle of faith, integrity, and compassion that will draw a hostile culture toward Christ.

Make a Difference Right Where you are.

Most Christians yearn for a life that’s more meaningful, more hopeful, more enjoyable – more possible. But they don’t know how to go about living in a culture that is becoming more and more hostile to them and their message.

If you are searching for an example of what it means to be a faithful Christian in an unfriendly environment, Living in the Lion’s Den without Being Eaten will help you develop a culture-changing faith that follows the example of the biblical character Daniel.

Daniel enjoyed an increasingly intimate relationship with God through increasingly difficult trials. Ripped from his home at the age fourteen and taken into a foreign, pagan culture eight hundred miles away, he faced educational indoctrination, pressure and jealousy from peers, threats of physical violence, and the constant risk of painful death. Yet Daniel flourished spiritually – and God used him to profoundly impact the culture of his day.

Living in the Lion’s Den without Being Eaten will help you to flourish and make a difference in your world instead of simply surviving in it. You’ll discover how to: survive when the bottom drops, stand up for what’s right when everyone else is giving in, impact your culture beginning right where you are, hold up under persecution and attack, attract others to Christ without a pulpit, keep your balance when you’ve reached the top.

The Dangerous Illusion of A Manageable Deity

“I may well be that the worst sin of the church at the end of twentieth century has been the trivialization of God.”

The God of the Scriptures is a holy God – wholly other, radically different from anything else in creation, terrifying in greatness, and utterly awesome in love. This is a God who transcends our understanding and is unknowable except by divine revelation – the God described by the author of Hebrews as, “a consuming fire.”

But the church has reduced this God of glory to more manageable proportions. We have trivialized the God of glory. “Visit an average congregation on a Sunday morning,” proposes Donald McCullough, “and you will likely find a congregation comfortably relating to a deity who fits nicely within precise doctrinal positions, or who lends almighty support to social crusades, or who conforms to individual spiritual experiences. But you will not likely find much awe.” The result is a diminished influence of the church on the world around it – a sad reflection of the manageable deity we have put in God’s place.

Donald McCullough calls us to abandon the fleeting comfort of our subsitute gods and embrace the God of the Bible: a God far more powerful, exciting, loving, and unfathomable than any image of God we can conjure up. Those who know and follow this God are different – a people transformed by a holy God into a holy, worshiping, loving community that reveals an awesome God to a needy world.
